I really would have like to see a one on one type of gladiator pvp. It would be nice to (much like the current pvp system) have random 1on1 pvp and "team-up" with you opposition. I find myself going into the random arena's asking for a one on one oppenent and meeting them in a secluded area of the map. Sure this might inspired a certain "rambo" mentality but that is only mental, and surely can be ignored. I would like to know how many people would support this being implemented into Guild Wars Arena.
lol, you just started it again...
there are millions of posts of this sort here and everywhere
pro: its fun and you can test out build and so on, so forth...
cons: the necro proffesion will not be able to do anything in this kind of a fight, and i am a necro (so dont start to explain how a necro can be great! seriously, a pure necro has no chance against anything, in a 1v1 fight, and if you will use your secondary, you dont need soul reaping, so be secondary necro).
in addition, some say that the battle will consist of one person running and one chasing him.
another point is that there will be mainly invincible builds in the battles, and they will go on forever.
there are many other things to say that would reject this idea.
i still think a 1v1 arena should exist. its fun adds a nice "pick up and play" nature to guild wars. but, there cant be faction rewards or experience. go to this link for my personal idea for the 1v1 thingie.
You can't have this in GW. WAY too many builds are unkillable by any one other player. It wouldn't be the Gladiator Arena, it would be the Grief Arena.
Your best bet to win in there would be to run something like....
Death
Elementalist/Necromancer
Level: 20
Energy Storage: 7
Air Magic: 16 (12+4)
Curses: 8
Blood Magic: 8
Rend Enchantments (Curses)
Remove 6 enchantments from target foe. For each Monk enchantment removed, you take 40 damage.
Energy:10 Cast Time:3 Recharge:30
Lightning Surge [Elite] (Air Magic)
After 3 seconds, target foe is knocked down and struck for 106 lightning damage. This spell causes Exhaustion.
Energy:10 Cast Time:2 Recharge:10
Parasitic Bond (Curses)
For 20 seconds, target foe suffers health degeneration of 1. The caster is healed for 78 health when Parasitic Bond ends.
Energy:5 Cast Time:1 Recharge:2
Lightning Orb (Air Magic)
Lightning Orb flies toward target enemy and strikes for 106 lightning damage if it hits.
Energy:15 Cast Time:2 Recharge:5
Vampiric Gaze (Blood Magic)
Steal 41 health from target foe.
Energy:10 Cast Time:1 Recharge:5
Windborne Speed (Air Magic)
For the next 9 seconds, target ally moves 33% faster.
Energy:10 Cast Time:1 Recharge:5
Gale (Air Magic)
Knock down target enemy for 3 seconds. This spell causes Exhaustion. With less than 5 in Air Magic, this skill has a 50% chance to fail.
Energy:5 Cast Time:1 Recharge:5
...and that isn't going to satisfy your Gladiator urges either I'm guessing since it seems like 99% of the people that want to 1v1 Gladiator style are warrriors.
Or you run into this...and then you're just annoyed because they can only kill stuff with no healing and you can't chase them worth a damn unless you have massive hex removal...
Crippling Anguish [Elite] (Illusion)
For the next 18 seconds, target enemy moves 50% slower and suffers -3 health degeneration.
Energy:15 Cast Time:0.81 Recharge:20
Ethereal Burden (Illusion)
For the next 10 seconds, target enemy moves 50% slower than normal. When Ethereal Burden ends, you gain 20 energy.
Energy:15 Cast Time:2.43 Recharge:45
Inspired Hex (Inspiration)
Remove a Hex from target ally and gain 12 energy. For the next 20 seconds, Inspired Hex is replaced with the Hex that was removed.
Energy:5 Cast Time:0.81 Recharge:0
Ether Feast (Inspiration)
Target enemy loses 5 energy. You are healed 23 for each point of energy lost.
Energy:5 Cast Time:1.62 Recharge:8
Illusion of Haste (Illusion)
For 10 seconds you are no longer crippled, and you move 33% faster than normal. When Illusion of Haste ends, you become crippled for 15 seconds.
Energy:10 Cast Time:0.81 Recharge:5
Healing Breeze (Healing Prayers)
For the next 10 seconds, target ally regenerates 7 health regeneration each second.
Energy:10 Cast Time:0.81 Recharge:2
Mending (Healing Prayers)
While you maintain this Enchantment, target ally gains 3 health regeneration.
Energy:10 Cast Time:1.62 Recharge:0
Distortion (Illusion)
You have a 75% chance to "evade" attacks. Each time you evade an attack this way, you lose -1 energy or Distortion ends.
Energy:5 Cast Time:0 Recharge:5
...or somebody that just doesn't want to fight at all...
Rush (Strength)
For 18 seconds, you move 25% faster.
Adrenaline:4
Sprint (Strength)
For 13 seconds, you move 25% faster.
Energy:5 Cast Time:0 Recharge:20
Shielding Hands (Protection Prayers)
For the next 10 seconds, damage received by target ally is reduced by 9.
Energy:5 Cast Time:0.75 Recharge:25
Purge Conditions (Monk other)
Remove all conditions from target ally.
Energy:5 Cast Time:0.25 Recharge:30
Purge Signet (Monk other)
Remove all hexes and conditions from target touched ally. You lose 10 energy for each hex and each condition removed.
Energy:0 Cast Time:2 Recharge:30
Healing Signet (Tactics)
You gain 115 health. You have -40 armor while using this skill.
Energy:0 Cast Time:2 Recharge:4
Mending (Healing Prayers)
While you maintain this Enchantment, target ally gains 3 health regeneration.
Energy:10 Cast Time:2 Recharge:0
Balthazar's Spirit (Smiting Prayers)
While you maintain this enchantment, target ally gains adrenaline and energy after taking damage. (The amount of adrenaline gained increases depending on your rank in Smiting Prayers.)
Energy:10 Cast Time:2 Recharge:0
I'm sure better builds could be found too, this is just three quick ideas....

You must not know much about your own class... Necro's are Warrior Bane builds all on their own.. Not to mention their blood magic can do quick fast damage, Lots of sacrifice spells that deal damage + demonic flesh = Kill the enemy before you run out of hp.
NEcro's are just as versatile as any other class...
Mortalis-
I suggest looking at Necro skills. A necro should utterly destroy warriors, and be able to hold their own against most anyone except an anti-caster mesmer or interrupt ranger. Just talking pure necro here...if you took 1-2 skills from a secondary class, you could do even better.

I think this is a good idea other than the fact its random. People could use invincible builds to basically farm faction from people who cant kill them.
You should be able to choose an opponent. There are many times that I want to 1v1 a friend but i never can. So make it something like, you invite them to be your opponent and you each start out in the same map.
